Snowdrift Mount Selwyn
“Snowdrift Mount Selwyn” captures the unique flora of the snowfields in the Australian Alps. Mount Selwyn is situated in Kosciusko National Park and is close to the town of Cabramurra. Cabramurra lays claim to be the town built at the highest altitude in Australia.
I captured this image while cross country skiing with my family at the Selwyn Ski Resort. It’s a place renowned as a great resort for first time skiers and family fun.
My mother claimed the picture was enchanted as it kept her calm during the summer. Mum kept a framed photograph of Snowdrift beside her Olivetti Golf Ball typewriter. She was a secretary in a commercial air conditioning company and had to prepare and submit tenders while Western Sydney sizzled in summer.
I have transcribed the scene into a grey tone artwork and selected pale blue and purple as the main feature colours. Using a grey-white palette reminds me of the alpine landscape after it’s been dusted with soft snowfall.
